Neither graceful nor beautiful, warthogs are nonetheless remarkable and cute animals. They are found in most of Africa south of the Sahara and are widely distributed in East Africa. They are the only pigs able to live in areas without water for several months of the year. By tolerating a higher-than-normal body temperature, the warthog is perhaps able to conserve moisture inside its body that might otherwise be used for cooling. When water is available, warthogs drink regularly and enjoy wallowing in muddy places. Our youngest guinea pig, Darwin, took a trip to the vet shortly after an accidental fall onto the hardwood floor. My boyfriend was carrying him to the kitchen when something spooked him and he leaped out of his grasp. We rushed him to the vet to learn that he had, in fact, broken his left Tibia. The leg has been casted and Darwin must remain isolated from our other guinea pig for the next six weeks until the break heals. The doctor advised us to keep him in a much smaller enclosure to restrict his movements. Before any ignorant comments start flooding in, I would like to point out that we chose to have him casted based on the recommendations of his doctor. He told us that putting him to sleep was not necessary. The doctor noted that it was a clean break and Darwin is only about 4 months old so it should heal very cleanly, and very quickly. He has 2 daily doses of medication to keep him very comfortable and I hand feed him throughout the day. Our piggies are very well cared for. Our vet bills were quite a bite to the budget, but our little guy is absolutely worth it.

August 24th 2009: We went to Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. We saw a lot of cute animals. There was a parade with cool floats too. I bought some Mickey ears because mom said you can’t go to Disney World without buying mouse ears. We saw the Lion king performance and mom met Lilo and Stitch. We went on a safari and saved a baby elephant. Dad and I went on a ride called Expedition Everest. Mom was scared so she didn’t ride it. I thought it was awesome! We ate at the Yak & Yeti. The food was good. It was so humid that when we came out, my glasses fogged up! Florida weather is crazy. It rained every day we were there. Music: ‘Hold Up’ from Freeplay music
